Intermodal Terminal and Logistics Park

To address growing demand for consumer goods throughout the Chicagoland area and the Midwest, CN is proposing to build a state-of-the art intermodal terminal on available land adjacent to the communities of Minooka and Channahon in Grundy County, Illinois.

CN’s investment in the new terminal will support the local, state, and national economies by supporting job growth, generating additional tax revenue, and creating more efficient access to export markets across the US, Mexico, Canada and abroad, connecting Chicagoland to the continent and all three coasts – Atlantic, Pacific, and the Gulf.

The privately-funded terminal project is designed to limit impact to adjacent roads, while also generating approximately $20.9 million in annual real estate tax revenue once fully built out, which will benefit local schools, parks, libraries, and public safety and fire department operations.

Key Project Highlights

  • Privately funded intermodal terminal infrastructure to address the growing demand for consumer goods.
  • Approximately 600 construction jobs created immediately during the construction process.
  • Approximately 6,500 permanent jobs expected to be created after full buildout.
  • Approximately $20.9 million in new annual tax revenue generated for the surrounding municipalities.

Economic Impacts

The proposed project generates significant economic impacts across the counties.
