The proposed project will create support approximately 600 constructionjobs created immediatelyduring the construction process and another approximately 6,500 permanent jobs created after full buildout. The average annual compensation for all jobs created during the construction period is projected to be $134,300.
Construction Job Creation: The proposed project will contribute approximately $555.4M in total compensation supporting thousands of family wage jobs during the construction period.
Intermodal Operations Job Creation: The proposed project will contribute approximately $31.9M annually in wages. The average compensation for all jobs created during the construction period is projected to be approximately $107,800.
Total Operational Impacts
The proposed project is expected to create thousands of direct jobs and generate a total of $299.8M in direct compensation annually, including jobs associated with both intermodal and logistics park operations.
Ongoing operations are expected to have significant supply chain and consumer impacts, creating additional indirect and induced jobs in Grundy County.
On average, an intermodal facility employee is expected to earn $98,300 annually. Operations of the intermodal facility is projected to stimulate indirect supply chain employment with average wages of $60,200 per year.
Annual Sales/Output
The proposed project will create approximately 6,500 total permanent jobs and will contribute $350M annually in wages.
Annual Property and Real Estate Tax Revenue
The development of intermodal terminal, and the 11 new industrial buildings as part of the eventual logistics park, is projected to generate additional annual property tax revenue for various public sector jurisdictions at full build-out.
The project, including both the intermodal terminal and the logistics park, is anticipated to generate significant annual property tax revenue for school districts, fire districts, parks and other public entities and organizations to benefit the community.
Spillover Impacts
Construction of the intermodal facility is expected to catalyze new industrial development in the surrounding area.
Environmental and Highway Traffic Benefits
Upon full buildout and assuming 50% truck conversion on domestic lanes, the terminal is expected to remove 400,000 long-haul trucks annually.
In the absence of this project, goods in containers would move by long-haul truck which generates 4x more greenhouse gas emissions per container.
This will alleviate congestion on I-80/I-55 and primary continental north-south corridors by removing long-haul trucks from the highways.
Facility and Traffic Details
CN has planned the project to minimize the traffic impact on local roads, commissioning a thorough traffic study with input from the Villages of Minooka and Channahon, and the Illinois Department of Transportation, which includes proposed improvements to local roadways.
The facility site is ideally located close to I-80 in an area that has long been planned for use to support freight traffic in the area.
The facility will have two access points, with one access point on McLindon Road and the other on Route 6. Two access points will decrease traffic impacts to one roadway system.
The facility’s proposed design allows for the minimization of blockages of the existing McLindon Road grade crossings. Even if McLindon Road were briefly blocked, the nearby grade-separated crossings at Ridge Road is just three minutes away, so motorists and emergency vehicle will always have a quick route around the area.
